FULL INITIAL LICENSING CATEGORY L: SOIL FUMIGATION

Description

This course is designed to assist California Pest Professionals to sit for and pass their state initial licensing exams to earn either their Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL) in Category L: Soil Fumigation. This online course covers material related to LAWS AND REGULATIONS, THE BASIC PRINCIPALS OF THE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE USE OF PESTICIDES, and SOIL FUMIGATION. It is self-paced, and narrated with high quality images of insects, animal species, and equipment. It is approximately 35 hours long, and is a self-paced tool to prepare students for their California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) exam.

This is NOT an eligibility course, continuing education course, exam, or recertification program. You will not receive any credits (CEUs) for this course. Quizzes are given to enhance the student’s learning and be retaken at anytime for review.

THE BASIC PRINCIPALS OF THE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE USE OF PESTICIDES section of this course covers the following materials:

• Pest Management, Pest Identification, Pesticides, Environmental Hazards, Human Hazards Associated With Pesticides, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Safe Use of Pesticides, Application Equipment, Calibrating Application Equipment, The Effective Use of Pesticides, Reading and Understanding The Pesticide Label, Invertebrate and Vertebrate Pests, Pathogens and Abiotic Disorders, Pesticide Toxicity, First Aid, Emergency Response Protocols, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Mixing Pesticides Effectively, Calculations, Site Security, Disposal, Storage, Recordkeeping and Liability, Protecting Water, Powered Pesticide Application Equipment/Chemigation, and How Pesticides are Organized or Classified.

The LAWS AND REGULATIONS section of this course covers the following materials:

• Introduction to California and Federal Laws and Regulations, Pesticide Registration, Pesticide Labeling, Restricted Materials, Pest Control Work Requirements, Pesticide Handler Safety, Fieldworker Safety, Protecting the Environment, and California Certification and Pest Control Business Licensing Requirements.

The SOIL FUMIGATION section of this course covers the following materials:

• Soil Fumigants, Understanding Pesticide Use Requirements, Factors That Influence Soil Fumigant Activity, Hazards Associated With Soil Fumigation, Fumigation Management Plans and Post-Application Summaries, Personal Safety In Soil Fumigation, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) For Soil Fumigation, Keeping Fumigants on Target, Buffer Zones and Posting Requirements, Pests Controlled With Soil Fumigants, Soil Fumigation Application Equipment and Methods, Calculations and Calibration for Soil Fumigation Equipment, and Fumigant Emergencies.

Once you have completed this course and are ready to take your QAC/QAL exam you must reach out to the California DPR to schedule your DPR Licensing Exam. Please keep in mind that you must file your application with DPR at least 30 days prior to the testing date you’d like to apply for.
